I’m amazed at the number of seasoned professionals I meet who are ready for a change, but aren’t sure what they want to change TO.
To stereotype, many “Type A” personalities know what they want to be, of course, and work towards that aggressively.
To not stereotype, I see all kinds of people, whether they are Type A or not, in a position where they wonder if they are on the right path, and only know that they don’t want to continue the path they were on.
When they talk to me they ask if I know a good local coach to work with. Local because they think meeting face-to-face is a requirement (it isn’t).
My first thought, though, is they need a career COUNSELOR, not a career COACH.
A counselor’s role is to help you work through the “who you are”, and “what do you want to be” process. They might point you towards personality assessments (not “tests”) and help you work through things to help point you in the right direction, so you can have a focused job search.
If you need help in your job search, maybe you need a career counselor?
