The Covid pandemic has brought about “The Great Resignation” and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in July 2021, that around 4 million people have quit their jobs. This is an unprecedented rate of worker turnover across the globe. Why is this happening?
Common Reasons People Quit Their Jobs
In many instances, the reasons are the same as they always have been – just on a much larger scale. The lockdown and forced remote work have allowed people the time to evaluate their careers and jobs.
#1 Toxic Coworkers and Culture
We often spend more time with colleagues than we do with our families. If the people and the atmosphere is unpleasant, you won’t want to stay. If your workplace is a stressful environment, it can take its toll on your mental health. You may find yourself dreading each day at work because of this stress.
#2 You Don’t Feel Valued
It’s not always about the money. People who don’t feel appreciated won’t stay at a job as long as those who do. Nobody likes to feel taken advantage of and not recognized for their efforts.
#3 No Advancement Opportunities
People want to feel more fulfilled in their careers. Growth is a major goal for most workers, and it’s frustrating when you’re not advancing fast enough or there just isn’t any opportunity available at all! Feeling stuck might mean its time to move on – so don’t let yourself get too far behind before making an informed decision about what next step will make YOU happy
#4 You Are Bored
When every day feels exactly the same, your work can become boring. The monotony and repetition are not tenable for most people in their jobs as they need to be challenged on a regular basis or else their interest will wane quickly.
#5 Burn Out
Burnout is a common issue for many people in today’s society, but it has been more prevalent lately. The pandemic and blurred lines between work life have made employees feel exhausted to the point of wanting out on their jobs.
